On 11 September 2016, Pape Souaré was airlifted to hospital after being involved in a car accident He broke his thighbone and jawbone. It was thought that he would only be out for 6 months, but ended up being close to a year.
Mark Bright, Ambassador for Crystal Palace FC tweeted this “Today belongs to you…nearly 12 months ago you were air lifted to hospital following a crash, today you made your comeback.”

Souaré made his first appearance back on the field playing 45 minutes for Palace Under-23s as they were beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest.
After the match Souare tweeted: “Glad to get some minutes under my belt. Feeling good.”
