Plateau United maintains five-point lead, Wikki Tourists get much needed space

In the Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 25, Plateau United maintained their position at the top of the standings, despite the Abia Warriors downing them two goals to one. In that matchup, Abia scored first thanks to an 11th minute goal by Shedrack Asiegbu. Plateau tied up the score in the 80th minute when substitute Hamzat Owolabi got a score off of a deflected volley. The game went to extra time, where Asiegbu notched his second goal of the game on a penalty kick and sealed the game for Abia. Abia is now in 11th place in the standings.

MFM FC was the team in position to shorten the gap, but they were unable to as Kano Pillars defeated them three goals to one. Rabiu Ali scored a goal for Kano in the first half, while MFM FC got an equalizer from Stephen Odey; that marked his 15th goal of the season. Then, in the final six minutes of the game, Amos Gyang and Adamu Mohammed both scored goals to make it a dominant win for Kano Pillars, who are now in ninth place.

MFM FC not only failed to bridge the gap between them and Plateau United, but even lost second place and got bumped down to third thanks to a well-timed victory by El Kanemi, who handily brushed off the last-place Remo Stars two goals to nil. El Kanemi was spurred on by a pair of goals courtesy of Sunday Anthony. They are now five points behind Plateau United.

On the other end of the table, the Sunshine Stars notched a victory over Gombe United two goals to one, but still finds themselves on the edge of relegation. Sunshine Stars got goals from Sikiru Alimi and midseason signing Dayo Ojo. As for Wikki Tourists, they are now a point ahead of the relegation line thanks to a nil-nil draw with sixth-place FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
