Wale: ‘The God Smile’ Video Shot in Lagos

To commemorate the one-year anniversary of The Album About Nothing, Wale has released the visuals for his track “The God Smile”. Although many may know Wale as a rapper hailing from Washington D.C., he’s made it a point to dig deep into his roots and show the world where he is really from; Nigeria.

During his last trip to Lagos, Nigeria; Olubowale Victor Akintimehin shot the visuals for “The God Smile”, where he danced and celebrated with traditional dancers and residents of the area. Several monumental African figures and locations were displayed throughout the video such as a large photo of honorable afrobeat pioneer- Fela Kuti, the Afrika Shrine and a street sign of ‘Ojuelegba Rd.’ (which most may know as the song title for afrobeat sensation, Wizkid’s most notable record).

Towards the end of the video, a large sign read “The Secret of Life is to Have No Fear”. ‘No fear’ is certainly what Wale has displayed by presenting this video; it takes real courage and wisdom to defy the odds and show the world a side of you that they aren’t used to seeing.

Kudos to you, Wale! Watch the video for “The God Smile” below.
